Choosing the Right Tools for the Job

There’s a lot to consider when it comes to spring lawn care. Believe it or not, choosing the right tools is just as important as choosing the right lawn care company.

If you’ve recently visited the lawn care aisle of any gardening or do-it-yourself store, you’ve seen an overwhelming selection of tools that leaves you wondering where to start. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. You’ve come to know us as the authority who provides your lawn care guide. Now, consider this your personal lawn care tool guide.

Things to consider when buying lawn care tools

The first factor is the job, followed by your lawn type, and then the size and layout of your lawn. If your lawn is on a hill or contains lots of trees, flower beds, play areas, or even large fountains, you’ll want to choose tools that can handle the curves.

Pricing can vary greatly, so it’s important to do your research and shop wisely. You might consider setting a budget and taking into account how often you plan to use the tools.

Must-have lawn care tools

Mowers

A good lawn mower that’s optimized for your yard is a must. The selection is vast, and it can be tough to make a decision. Here are some tips to help you decide:

  • Fuel type: Gas or electric? Both have benefits. Obviously, if you’re looking for the most environmentally friendly option, choose electric. If you’re looking for convenience, gas is your best bet.
  • Format: Push or riding? If you have a very large yard, a riding mower will save time you could be enjoying with your family.

Shears

You spend a good amount of time trimming bushes, small trees, flowers, and plants. You’ll want to make sure you have garden shears that are both comfortable to use and tough enough to get the job done.

There are three main types of shears:

  • Pruning: These handheld, scissor-like devices are ideal for light jobs like removing dead growth from household plants and decorative greenery.
  • Hedge: This type is sturdier, making it easier to complete larger tasks.
  • Looping: Wood-cutting shears come in handy for keeping climbing growth under control.

Blower

A leaf blower will make cleaning after landscaping easier and more efficient while helping to protect your lawn by removing debris that can prevent your lawn from getting the nutrients and air it needs.

Again, there are multiple options to consider:

  • Backpack: Never rake a lawn again – avoid back pain and enjoy the benefits of a near hands-free experience.
  • Gas: The significant power these can generate will move a lot of leaves. On the negative side, like gas-powered mowers, they aren’t the most environmentally sound option, and they also tend to be quite loud.
  • Electric: These blowers are unquestionably better for the environment. They also offer convenience – no more oil or spark plug changes, no trips to the gas station. However, if you have a very large lawn, a corded model may not be for you. Instead, consider a battery-powered model (and pick up an extra battery for extended use).
